Job Description
About the Role:
Full-time, 38 hours, 5 days per week
Fixed-Term contract for 12 months
Sydney based preferred (hybrid working arrangement)
The role of the accountant is to support and assist the Financial Controller, Finance Team, Director of Corporate Services (DoCS) and wider Corporate Services Team, with the financial management of NDS and provide support to Stakeholders in regard to financial and organisational compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial management
Administer the end-to-end monthly routines and processing for the organisation, including, asset register, reconciliations, accruals, and all major journals.
Generate & maintain monthly management reports for all activities.
Support the annual budgeting process.
Review of outsourced payroll and salary packaging including review of the payroll and related reports, staff salary packaging/entitlements and benefits.
Cash flow monitoring in conjunction with the Financial Controller.
Preparation of financial acquittals to funding bodies.
Preparation and collation of information for annual audit & financial statement preparation including liaising with external auditors.
Preparation of information for grant audits (as required), including liaising with external auditors.
Provide financial and management support across the organisation, at all levels.
AP/AR review including review of payment runs and debtor ledgers.
Review of peer month end reconciliations, accruals, workings and other journals
Compliance, contract responsibilities and legal obligations
Undertake tasks associated with taxation, (e.g. business activity statements, FBT returns).
Key role in the annual NDS audit process.
Preparation of reporting obligations (ABS, ACNC etc).
Financial and operational support
Provide financial and operational support to the Financial Controller, DoCS & broader corporate services team and program managers
Ensure all regular monthly journals, revenue recognition processes are processed in a timely fashion and are accurate.
Ensure reporting is completed as required.
Support and review peer’s work.
Ensure all Balance Sheet reconciliations are completed monthly for all accounts, are accurate and reviewed.
System enhancements projects as defined by the FC, DoCS, or other senior staff.
Assist the FC & DoCS with the development and mentoring of finance team.
Other Responsibilities
Provide input into the development, maintenance and enhancement of policies and procedures, systems and practice including embedding compliance, risk, and records management elements
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by FC, DoCS and senior leaders from time to time.
Contribute to the achievement of the NDS strategy through participation in special initiatives and programs
Build the skills and capabilities of self and the other members of the finance team, wider corporate services team and other business stakeholders.
Comply with NDS’s policies and procedures at all times, including (but not limited to) HR, Quality, Work Health & Safety (WHS), IT & Security, and Data Privacy

Desired Skills and Experience
Skills & Experience:
Sound knowledge of accounting processes, accounting standards and audit procedures, banking, tax, and budgeting is essential.
Knowledge of funding & acquittals processes within the not-for-profit sector (desirable).
CA/CPA (or equivalent) qualified.
Knowledge of Sage ERP/Dynamics BC including BI reporting preferred.
High degrees of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite particularly excel and word.
Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively consult with all levels of staff and other stakeholders with varying degrees of financial acumen.
Customer service (internal and external) focused.
Strong communication (verbal & written) skills
Demonstrated commitment to achieving organisational objectives in line with established policies and procedures.
Demonstrated financial reporting (management and statutory) experience.
Excellent organisation and time management skills
Sound numerical skills
Able to problem solve and propose solutions &/or efficiencies, enhancements and procedures.
Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
Ability to work under pressure in an evolving environment.
